On March 22, 2014 at approximately 1 a.m. two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in the 1600 block of Ocean Avenue, just south of Seaside Terrace as they were crossing the street. The vehicle fled southbound on Ocean Avenue without stopping. The two pedestrian victims were a mother and daughter, ages 61 and 32 years old. The mother is a resident of Wisconsin and the daughter is a resident of Santa Monica. The daughter suffered only minor injuries; however, the mother suffered major head trauma and was unresponsive when first responders arrived on scene. CPR was administered to the mother on scene and she was transported to a local trauma hospital for treatment. At 2 a.m. the Police Department was notified that the mother died as a result of her injuries.
The suspect vehicle has been described as a silver sports coupe, with tinted windows and the suspect was described as a Caucasian male.
The Santa Monica Police Department's Major Accident Response Team is currently investigating the accident and has closed down State Route 1's exit on to Ocean Avenue until approximately 8 a.m.
