ARREST OF SANTA MONICA FIRE DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 31, 2008

Contact:

Sergeant Renaldi Thruston
(310) 458-8471

On July 30, 2008, at about 5:15 P.M., officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the Santa Monica Pier regarding a call of a suspect being detained by Pacific Park security guards for ‘indecent exposure’.  When officers arrived, they recognized the suspect as Fernando Padilla.  Padilla is a 19 year veteran with the Santa Monica Fire Department and was assigned to Santa Monica Fire Station #5, as a paramedic captain.

Padilla was off duty and not in uniform during this incident.

Witnesses told officers they observed Padilla expose and manipulate his genitalia, while seated on a bench, inside the amusement park.  Witnesses placed Padilla under citizen’s arrest and officers transported him to the Santa Monica jail where he was booked for indecent exposure and lewd conduct.

Padilla has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call the Santa Monica Police Department Detectives at (310) 458-8451 (M – F, 8 AM – 5 PM) or the Watch Commander at (310) 458-8427 (24 hours). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the WeTip hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463).
