On May 28, 2008, at about 3:02 p.m.,
officers from the Santa Monica Police
Department responded to the 1900 block of 14th
Street regarding a traffic collision
involving a vehicle versus a bicyclist.
Paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire
Department responded and transported cyclist
to a local hospital, where she later died.
She has been identified as a Venice resident
by the name of Carolyn Ackerson, 49 years of
age.
Investigators from the Santa Monica Police
Department Major Accident Reconstruction
Team (MART) responded to the scene. They
spoke to witnesses who said they saw the
cyclist lose control of her bicycle and veer
across two lanes of traffic. The cyclist
fell off her bicycle, into an opposing lane
of traffic, and was struck by an oncoming
vehicle. No charges of fault have been
filed on the driver of the vehicle.
