On Sunday, July 15, 2007, at 1:50AM, patrol officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the 400 block of 11th street regarding a radio call of gunshots being fired. Upon arrival, officers were contacted by several witnesses who had been attending a party at a residence. Initial information received indicates that several of the partygoers had gotten into an argument in front of the residence. One of these subjects produced a gun and several gunshots were fired. Prior to the arrival of the police, the suspects and victims had fled the scene. The suspects were seen fleeing in a silver colored BMW 5-series.
While the officers were still at the scene, they were notified that two shooting victims (adult male and female) had arrived at a local hospital and were being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The female victim had been shot in the leg and the male had been shot in the forearm and lower torso. A few minutes later two other shooting victims (adult males) arrived at another local hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. One victim had been shot in the thigh and the other victim had been shot in the leg.
Detectives interviewed the witnesses and victims and were able to identify one of the suspects involved in the shooting. This suspect voluntarily came to the police department, where he was arrested and booked for conspiracy and attempt murder. He is being detained at the Santa Monica jail. The suspect’s bail is set at one million dollars. He has been identified as Justus Sackett-Michel, male, white, 21 years old. Sackett-Michel is a resident of Los Angeles. The vehicle the suspects fled in was recovered.
This is an ongoing investigation and other suspect(s) are being sought.
