On May 31, 2007 at 5:42 a.m., the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the intersection of 4th Street and Colorado Boulevard regarding an auto vs. motorcycle traffic collision. The 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle involved in the collision had just been stolen from the 7-Eleven at 1630 Santa Monica Boulevard.
Preliminary investigation revealed the 49 year old male driver on the stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle was southbound 4th Street approaching Colorado at high speed. Upon entering the intersection at Colorado he broadsided a 2004 Volkswagon Touareg, driven by a 24 female which was westbound Colorado on a green light. The suspect driving the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagon was transported to Santa Monica UCLA Hospital with minor injuries. She was treated for her injuries and released.
Further investigation revealed the suspect driving the motorcycle was on parole with an outstanding felony warrant. He had priors for grand theft auto, receiving stolen property, evading arrest and narcotic violations.
