On April 17, 2007, at 9:40 p.m., Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the west end of the Santa Monica Pier to assist the Harbor Guards, who patrol the Pier, with the recovery of a body that was seen floating face down in the ocean. The Harbor Guards were able to perform an ocean rescue and bring the subject to the top of the Pier. Attempts to resuscitate the subject were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
The identity of the deceased is not being released, pending the notification of the next of kin. The body was released to the Coroners Office. The deceased is described as a Male/White in his 80’s. The deceased is not the same person that disappeared while fishing in San Pedro in March of this year. There does not appear to be any signs of foul play.
