On January 3, 2006, at 4:17 p.m., two Santa Monica Police Officers assigned to the Pico Neighborhood Detail were notified of shots fired in the area of 1800 block 16th Street. Officers immediately contained the area and a short time later, officers saw a dark vehicle leaving the alley. The vehicle was stopped in the 1200 block of Pico Blvd and the occupants were detained. A field show-up was conducted and the witness identified one of the occupants in the vehicle as a person that was seen holding a gun in his hand.
While officers were conducting the investigation, police dispatch was notified of a person who walked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. The victim is a M/B, 18 of Santa Monica.
The investigation is on going and at the time of this press release the suspect had not been booked.
