On Saturday, November 12, 2005, at 11:43 am, Santa Monica Police responded to the 2000 block of Wilshire (Union Bank) regarding a bank robbery. Responding officers received information that the suspect had left the bank and entered an awaiting vehicle (taxi cab). Officers saw the vehicle in the area of the 2600 block of Wilshire and stopped the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money. After receiving the money the suspect left the bank to the awaiting vehicle. A field show-up was conducted and the witnesses identified the suspect. A replica handgun was recovered in the suspect’s possession as well as an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency taken from the bank robbery.
The suspect has been identified as Gkur Shawn Skylark, Male, Black, 26, of Wilmington. He was booked at the Santa Monica Jail for bank robbery, kidnapping, and parole violation. No bail.
Detectives from the Robbery/Homicide Unit of the Santa Monica Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations are handling the investigation.
