June 29, 2005

On June 29, 2005, at 10:28 a.m. Santa Monica Police Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at the First Federal Bank, 2827 Main Street in Santa Monica.  Witnesses reported that one of the suspects was armed with a black handgun and had been seen fleeing the bank and entering a black SUV.

Officers responding to the bank robbery observed the suspect vehicle at Lincoln and Venice Blvd. in the city of Venice. The suspect vehicle fled from the officers and a short pursuit ensued.  The suspects drove into the parking structure of the Villa Marina Market Place located in the 13400 block of Maxella Ave. in Marina Del Rey, where the suspect vehicle came to an abrupt stop and both suspects exited their vehicle and made furtive movements and refused the officers commands.  A foot pursuit ensued, at which point an officer involved shooting occurred and both suspects were shot.  Both suspect’s were arrested and transported to local hospitals where they are listed in stable condition. No other persons were injured.

At this point, officers are attempting to confirm the identity of the suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
