On April 29, 2005, at approximately 7:56 a.m., the Santa Monica Police Department responded to Ocean Avenue and Pico Boulevard regarding a traffic accident involving a Santa Monica Blue Bus and a pedestrian.

 

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Blue Bus was driving westbound on Pico Boulevard and stopped for a red light at Ocean Avenue.  When the traffic signal for westbound traffic turned green, the Blue Bus waited for a pedestrian to cross westbound.  After the pedestrian had crossed the Blue Bus made a right turn and struck a different pedestrian. The traffic collision resulted in serious injuries to the pedestrian. The pedestrian, a Female Hispanic, was transported to a local hospital and later died.

The driver of the Santa Monica Blue Bus was interviewed at the scene and released pending further investigation.  The cause of the collision is under investigation.
