On April 4, 2005 at 2:07 a.m., Santa Monica Police Officers stopped a bicyclist for a traffic violation in the 1700 block of Cloverfield Blvd. During their preliminary investigation, officers recovered a burglary tool and a garage opener in the suspect’s possession. The bicycle was reported stolen from Eureka, California, in 2002. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Santa Monica Jail. He was identified as Melvin Gilbert Thomas, 39 of Los Angeles. Thomas was booked for possession of a burglary tool, possession of stolen property, and parole violation. No bail.
