RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
January 20, 2005
Incident# 05-006346

On January 20, 2005, at 12:48 a.m., Santa Monica Police Department responded to the 1500 block of 9th Street regarding a residential burglary that just occurred.  When officers arrived, they spoke to the resident who said that he was awaken and saw the suspect standing inside his bedroom.   The suspect walked out of the apartment and fled on foot.

Officers responding to the call stopped a subject 30 minutes earlier matching the same description given by the victim.  Officers went to Lincoln Blvd and Colorado Ave. and saw the subject seated in the restaurant.  The officers contacted the subject and noticed a wallet in his pocket.  A wallet was taken from the victim’s residence during the burglary.  Upon further investigation, officers determined that the wallet in the subject’s possession belonged to the victim.  A field show-up was conducted and the victim positively identified the subject.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Santa Monica Jail. He was identified as Michael Derrick O’Brien, M/W 22, of Valencia.  The suspect was booked for residential burglary and an outstanding warrant and his bail has been set at $46,000.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Detective Murphy at 310.458.8958.
