ASSAULT AND BATTERY / SUSPECT ARRESTED
December 12, 2004
DR# 04-105105

On December 10, 2004, at 10:05 a.m., Santa Monica Police responded to the 700 block of Montana, Starbucks, regarding an assault and battery that just occurred.  While officers were en route to the call, they received additional information regarding a second assault and battery that occurred in the area of Lincoln and Montana Ave.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect entered the business and began creating a disturbance and was asked to leave by an employee. The suspect jumped over the counter and struck the victim with his fist, and left the store.  The suspect fled on foot and within minutes approached another victim, M/H, 80 years of age, and without provocation struck the victim several times.

The suspect fled on foot and was stopped by officers within minutes after the second assault.  A field show-up was conducted and the suspect was positively identified.  The suspect was arrested and taken to the Santa Monica Jail.  He was identified as Christopher Grant Williams, M/B, 44, transient. Williams was booked for elder abuse, and assault and battery.  His bail has been set at $50,000.

The employee/victim at Starbucks received a small laceration to his lip and did not require medical treatment.  The second victim (M/H,80) was transported to a local hospital and he received a laceration above his eyebrow which required four stitches.

Anyone having additional information regarding these incidents are encouraged to contact the Santa Monica Police Department at 310-458-8491.
