AUTO BURGLARY / ATTEMPT AUTO THEFT
SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY
September 4, 2004
DR# 04-074888

On September 4, 2004, at 12:47 a.m., Santa Monica Police responded to the area of Lincoln and Pacific regarding an auto theft in progress. Apparently, the suspects broke the window to a parked SUV, stole stereo equipment, and attempted to steal the vehicle. While ground units were responding to the area, additional Santa Monica officers, who were on patrol in the helicopter (Air 65), arrived within seconds over the location and saw the suspect*s fleeing in a described vehicle. Air 65 followed the suspect*s vehicle and directed responding police units to its location.

The suspect*s vehicle was stopped at Lincoln Blvd and Grant Street where a
high-risk stop was conducted. In the event suspects fled on foot, Air 65
remained overhead until all suspects were safely taken into custody. It is our belief that the suspect*s did not flee in their vehicle nor on foot into the residential neighborhood because of the helicopter*s presence. Four suspects were arrested and the victim*s stereo equipment was recovered.

Suspect 1 is identified as Antonio Orozco, Male, Hispanic, 28 of Los Angeles.
Orozco was booked for auto burglary, attempt car theft, and violation of felony probation and he has no bail. Suspect 2 is identified as Felix Rangel, Male, Hispanic, 31 of Los Angeles. Rangel was booked for auto burglary, attempt car theft, and violation of felony probation and he has no bail.
Suspect 3 is identified as John Daniel Rangel, Male, Hispanic, 22 of Los Angeles. Daniel Rangel was booked for auto burglary, attempt car theft, and his bail is set at $20,00. Suspect 4 is described as a male juvenile.

Anyone having additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Santa Monica Police Department at 310-458-8491.
