On
September 4, 2004, at 12:47 a.m., Santa
Monica Police responded to the area of
Lincoln and Pacific regarding an auto
theft in progress. Apparently, the
suspects broke the window to a parked
SUV, stole stereo equipment, and
attempted to steal the vehicle. While
ground units were responding to the
area, additional Santa Monica officers,
who were on patrol in the helicopter
(Air 65), arrived within seconds over
the location and saw the suspect*s
fleeing in a described vehicle. Air 65
followed the suspect*s vehicle and
directed responding police units to its
location.
The suspect*s vehicle was stopped at
Lincoln Blvd and Grant Street where a
high-risk stop was conducted. In the
event suspects fled on foot, Air 65
remained overhead until all suspects
were safely taken into custody. It is
our belief that the suspect*s did not
flee in their vehicle nor on foot into
the residential neighborhood because of
the helicopter*s presence. Four suspects
were arrested and the victim*s stereo
equipment was recovered.
