On
December 27, 2003, the Santa Monica Police Department with other
Westside law enforcement agencies participated in a Nationwide DUI
enforcement program entitled “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose”
sponsored by the State of California - Office of Traffic Safety and
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, by conducting a
checkpoint in the 3100block of Santa Monica Blvd.
The
Multi-agency Traffic Program, lead by the Santa Monica Police
Department, issued 29 citations and towed eight vehicles for a variety
of offenses. Two
individuals were arrested for driving under the influence and one
individual was arrested for public intoxication.
A total of 1406 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 271
vehicles were stopped in a six-hour period.
Police officers from Beverly Hills Police Department, Los
Angeles Sheriff’s Department – West Hollywood and California
Highway Patrol – West Los Angeles Office participated in this
Traffic Program.
The
goal of these programs aim at educating and bringing awareness to our
community, while at the same time detecting and removing drunk and
irresponsible drivers from our roadways.
