On
October 7, 2003, at 12:30 p.m., Santa Monica Police responded to the
200 block of Broadway regarding a theft investigation. When officers
arrived they spoke to the store merchant who was reporting the theft.
The merchant said that the suspect entered his store and said
he was there to service the store’s fire extinguishers.
Apparently, the suspect poses as a repairman, acquires money
for servicing the fire extinguishers and leaves without performing the
work.
The
suspect is described as a Male, White, 40 to 45 years of age, 5’10,
weighing approximately 280 pounds, having brown hair. The suspect was
wearing a dark colored long sleeve jacket and blue jeans.
The
Santa Monica Fire Department enforces the California Code of
Regulations Title 19 that requires fire extinguishers be serviced once
a year. Businesses should
check the tag that is affixed to their fire extinguisher for this
information. On the tag
is the date and month it was last serviced.
Only a State Licensed Contractor can only conduct this type of
service.
Anyone
with any information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the
Santa Monica Police Department at 310.458.8491.
