On
June 27, 2003, the Santa Monica Police Department participated in the
Nationwide DUI enforcement program “Drink, Drive, You Lose”
sponsored by the State of California - Office of Traffic Safety and
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, by conducting a
checkpoint in the 1200 block of Ocean Avenue.
The
Santa Monica Police Department’s Traffic Division issued 9 citations
for various vehicle code violations, towed two vehicles and conducted
one field sobriety test. A
total of 1210 vehicles entered the checkpoint. A
total of 256 vehicles were stopped in a five-hour period.
The
goal of these programs aims at educating and bringing awareness to our
community, while at the same time detecting and removing drunk drivers
from our roadways.
