On
April 16, 2003 at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Santa Monica Police
Department responded to the intersection of Santa Monica Blvd. and 23rd
Street regarding a traffic accident involving a vehicle and a
pedestrian.
A
preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was driving south
on 23rd Street and stopped for a red light at Santa Monica
Blvd. When westbound
traffic cleared, the vehicle turned and struck the pedestrian walking
east in the marked crosswalk. The traffic collision resulted in
serious injuries to the pedestrian. The pedestrian, M/W 85 and
resident of Pacific Palisades, was transported to a local hospital for
his injuries.
The
driver of the vehicle, a resident of Santa Monica, was interviewed at
the scene and released pending further investigation.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
