On Friday, December
20, 2002 at approximately 1:20 a.m., Santa Monica Police responded to
the 1600 block of Fourth Street regarding a traffic accident involving
a vehicle and a pedestrian.
A preliminary
investigation revealed that the pedestrian, M/B, was crossing
eastbound in a crosswalk that was posted "No Pedestrian
Crossing". A vehicle, traveling southbound on Fourth Street,
struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported
to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is listed in
critical condition.
The driver of the
vehicle was arrested at the scene for investigation of Felony Driving
Under the Influence of an alcoholic beverage. He is identified as
William Edgar Walk, IV, M/W 22, a resident of Hermosa Beach. He was
booked at the Santa Monica Jail and his bail has been set at $50,000.
The investigation is
on going to determine the exact cause of the accident. Anyone with
