AUTOMOBILE THEFT INVESTIGATION

On December 12, 2002, at approximately 3:00 P.M., Santa Monica Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Centinela Avenue.  During the traffic investigation, the passenger ran from the vehicle to the 1700 block of Wellesley Avenue in West Los Angeles.  Officers conducting a preliminary investigation in the field discovered that the automobile might be an unreported stolen vehicle.  Pursuing officers established a perimeter with the assistance of the Los Angeles Police Department. 

Santa Monica Police officers took the suspect who ran, a male, African-American, 37-years old, into custody at approximately 5:00 P.M.

Officers took the driver of the vehicle, a male, African-American, 35- years old, into custody at the scene of the traffic stop. 

The investigation is on-going.
