On
July 28, 2002, at about 7:18 P.M., Santa Monica Police Department
responded to the 1800 block of 17th Street regarding an
attempt kidnapping. When officers arrived they spoke to several
witnesses and the victim. Preliminary investigation revealed that a
7-year-old girl and several other young people were at the curb buying
ice cream from a mobile vendor when the suspect drove up and spoke to
the 7 yr old.
The
suspect attempted to lure the victim into entering his car and when he
was unsuccessful attempted to lure another young female into his car.
The suspect drove away and returned when a parent attempted to stop
him and gather additional information.
The suspect drove his vehicle toward the parent in an attempt
to flee. A witness was
able to obtain a description of the suspect, his car that included the
license plate.
Detectives
were contacted and conducted an immediate follow-up to the suspect’s
residence. While
detectives were in the area, the suspect returned home and was
detained and later arrested for attempt kidnapping.
The
suspect was identified as Christopher Dean Casanova Male White 48 of
Sylmar. He was booked at the Santa Monica Jail and his bail has been
set at $500,000.
