On
July 10, 2002, Santa Monica Police Department conducted a panhandling
sting on the 3rd Street Promenade.
The focus of the sting was to address aggressive
panhandling.
Personnel
assigned to the Directed Resource Division conducted this sting
operation. The
enforcement sting lasted 2 hours and resulted in five misdemeanor
arrests. Three suspects
were arrested for panhandling and two suspects were arrested for
public intoxication and violation of a domestic violence restraining
order.
The
suspects arrested were transported to the Santa Monica Jail and booked
as charged.
