On
July 1, 2002 at 8:24 p.m. Santa Monica Police responded to the 2600
block of Pico Blvd regarding shots fired and a victim down at the
location. When officers
arrived, they located a male victim, lying next to the sidewalk with
gunshot wounds. Officers
received information that the suspect was seen running into a business
in the 2600 block of Pico Blvd. Officers
approached the business establishment and located the suspect.
The suspect was arrested and transported to Santa Monica jail.
The motive for the shooting is unknown at this point.
The suspect is held without bail.
The
victim was transported to a local hospital were he later died.
The victim’s identity is not being released, pending
notification of the family.
The
suspect is identified as Michael Ward Bell, M/W 53 of Los Angeles.
The
Robbery/Homicide Unit of the Santa Monica Police Department is
conducting the investigation.
