On
May 31, 2002, at 3:37 a.m., Santa Monica Police Officers saw a vehicle
commit several traffic violations in the area of 4th Street
and Marine Street. Officers
attempted to stop the vehicle, and after a short distance, the vehicle
stopped in a driveway of an apartment building in the 3000 block of 3rd
Street. As officers
approached the vehicle, they saw the driver place his right hand under
the seat and refused to remove his hand from under the seat.
The driver started yelling at the officers and failed to comply
with the officer’s requests. The
driver got out of his vehicle and ran from the officers holding a
plastic bag in his hand. While the driver was running from the officers he threw a
large plastic bag that he had in his hand into the street. Officers
recovered the plastic bag and apprehended the driver of the vehicle.
Officers
recovered several grams of powder cocaine, rock cocaine, marijuana,
and narcotics paraphernalia.
The
driver/suspect was identified as Jeremy Naidoo, M/B 28 of Santa
Monica. He was booked at
the Santa Monica Jail and charged with possession of cocaine for sale,
possession of cocaine base for sale, possession of narcotics
paraphernalia, battery on a peace officer, driving under the influence
of a controlled substance and other related charges. Bail was set at $50,000.
