On May 8, 2002, at
6:30 p.m., an officer assigned to the Pico Neighborhood Task Force
attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 1600 block
of Cloverfield Ave. The driver of the vehicle pulled to the curb and
stopped his vehicle. The officer stopped his marked police vehicle
behind the violator’s vehicle and began to approach the driver.
While walking towards the violator’s vehicle, the driver drove off
and made a u-turn and broadsided a silver Toyota that was stopped for
a red light. The driver/suspect failed to stop at the accident scene
and continued driving southbound on Cloverfield Ave. At the
intersection of Cloverfield Ave. and Olympic Blvd the traffic light
was red for southbound traffic and the driver/suspect attempted to
maneuver his vehicle between two other vehicles stopped for the red
light. While attempting to maneuver between the two-stopped vehicles,
the driver/suspect broadsided a black BMW. After this accident, the
driver/suspect failed to stop and drove through the red light and
turned westbound on Olympic Blvd. from Cloverfield Ave. The
driver/suspect struck a third vehicle (black Honda), which was driving
westbound on Olympic Blvd. After the third accident the driver/suspect
continued driving westbound on Olympic Blvd. and later stopped for
police.
The driver/suspect
was taken into custody and arrested for felony hit and run. During the
vehicle inventory search, officers recovered several individually
small bags of marijuana. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a 88,
White, Hnda Prelude.
The suspect is
identified as Freddy Daniel Moreno, 24 of Inglewood. Moreno was booked
for possession for sales and transportation of marijuana, felony hit
and run, evading a police officer and felony probation violation.
Moreno has no bail due to the felony probation violation.
