ATTEMPT MURDER ON A POLICE OFFICER
OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

The officer injured on Friday, October 26, 2001, has been identified as Maurice Dean, a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Santa Monica.  Officer Dean has been with the Department for four years.  Officer Dean has been released from the hospital and is at home recuperating from his injuries.

The subject that was also run over is still in a local hospital with a possible fractured skull. 

The suspect arrested has been identified as James Michael Fischer, M/W 34 of Venice, California. The vehicle used by the suspect was reported as a stolen vehicle from West Valley Division, LAPD. Fischer was booked for attempt murder on a police officer and other related charges. Fischer’s bail has been set at $1,000,000.  He is due to be arraigned on Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at the Santa Monica Courthouse.
