As a result of an extensive investigation by Santa Monica Police
investigators, a suspect who was wanted in a series of fraud cases
throughout the County of Los Angeles is in custody.
On October 21, 2001, at approximately 2:40 P.M., Santa Monica
police officers assigned to the Downtown area recognized MUAMMER UZ
from wanted bulletins that were distributed to officers and citizens.
UZ was arrested without incident as he crossed Santa Monica
Boulevard at 3rd Street on the 3rd Street
Promenade.
From 1999 to September 2001, UZ, a 53-year old male White from Los
Angeles, posed as an employee of the National Space Development Agency
of Japan (NASDA). UZ
would befriend Japanese tourists and borrow money with a promise to
pay back the loan.
No money was ever returned.
UZ was involved in approximately 42 cases, 24 of which occurred
in Santa Monica. The
estimated total loss is over $11,000.00
UZ’s
bail is currently set at $47,000.00.
