National Night Out

On
Tuesday, August 7, 2007, Chief J.
Timothy Jackman and the Santa Monica
Police Department hosted a 1950's themed
block party at the Santa Monica Public
Safety Facility to celebrate National
Night Out. |

|
Celebrating the lowest crime rate since
1956, entertainment was provided by The
Wonderelles, an all female group, who
performed a 1950s musical revue.

There
were also performances by the PAL
Cheerleaders, PAL Boxing & Karate teams
and
Grupo La Rosa, a ballet
folklórico group. |

|
People met with their neighbors, members
of the Police and Fire Department and
various service organizations. More than
1,100 hot dogs, 1,000 bags of chips, 600
ice creams, 50 pizzas & 100 liters of
soft drinks, which were donated by local
businesses, were consumed. |

Over
1,000 people attended the event. The
attendees enjoyed free food,
refreshments, giveaways and
entertainment. |

The
Santa Monica Fire Department, McGruff
the Crime Dog, the Special Entry Team, Harbor,
K-9 & Mounted Units were joined the
community to celebrate the partnerships
which make our city safe. Next year’s
event is already being planned for
Tuesday, August 5, 2008. |
